Cranleigh is an energetic and purposeful school, and is reputed for its warm, caring community atmosphere. Cranleighans are encouraged to make the most of their varied potential, to relish challenge, to feel they are known as individuals, and to become talented and wise adults in a fast-changing world. Cranleigh has high standards but is not elitist, and over the last five years, more than 95%, on average, have gone on to University, including one in ten to Oxbridge.
A great strength is drawn from the fact that the School operates as a strong boarding community, and Open Boarding is a policy at Cranleigh, where parents are welcome to visit as often as they can. There are eight Houses, each offering a slightly different style of community life. There is also a separate residence for girls. Each House operates effectively as a mini-school where boys, girls, boarding and day pupils, of all ages play a full part in house activities; the whole school comes together for assemblies, activities, chapel, and for all meals in the main dining hall.
Cranleigh's style incorporates a close relationship between staff and pupils, where discipline can be maintained through mutual respect. There is a strong focus on pastoral care and personal development, and individual tutoring ensures that each pupil's potential is fulfilled. To this end, every teacher is attached to a House, and almost all staff live in or near the School campus to remain close to the students.
Attractively located, Cranleigh is only eight miles from Guildford, and within an hour of Gatwick, Heathrow, London and the S Coast. It is set in a splendid site of 200 acres of rolling Surrey farmland, (Cranleigh Preparatory School is adjacent and set in its own 35 acres). Tremendous facilities include 3 theatres, a golf course and horse-riding facilities. Recent developments include refurbished computing facilities right in the centre of the school to make it easy for the pupils to integrate information systems into any subject; more flexible arrangements for day pupils and a 2nd Astroturf playing field (floodlit).
